The recent ruling from the Supreme Court on gay marriages – an oxymoron – changes nothing for the vast majority of residents of our state, who overwhelmingly disapprove of redefining the meaning of marriage.
Not only did North Carolinians in 2012 vote to amend our state constitution to make this clear, but our legislature in 1996 passed a law that forbids a new definition of marriage. No law in our state forbids such people from marrying – by moving to another state where its residents do not believe in the sanctity of marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
Agreeing to the demands of a group of intolerant people who barely constitute 1 percent of our population sets Western civilization back 4,000 years to a time when the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for similar amoral behavior.
This is a matter for the residents of each state to decide as they see fit. The federal government should stay out of our business.
