I read with great interest and disgust your Oct. 1 news article “ Legal bills mount in voter ID defense.” Personal identification is necessary in most transactions.
Voter ID should be required to make sure that votes are cast only by legal citizens of this country. Voter ID has been in contention for a long time, which has taken time and money that could have been put to better use. Now I read of the huge amount of money being spent for attorneys.
There is one statistic I would like to see: How may people of voting age don’t have a valid ID? Maybe this would show we don’t need to spend well into the millions of dollars and thousands of people hours on a nonproblem. Surely less time and money would be spent providing transportation and assistance to get a valid ID for those that don’t have one.
I am certain all the resources wasted on voter ID would be better put to use paying and hiring teachers we so badly need.
