In response to the Oct. 29 news article “ Democrats’ get-out-the-vote tactic: Shame”: I am a lifelong Democrat. I have never voted for any other party in the 30-plus years I’ve been able to vote. For the past seven years, I have also been a resident in Orange County.
Over the past few weeks, I have received three mailings from the Democratic Party advising me that whether I vote is a matter of public record. The intent of these letters is clearly to intimidate voters in order to get out the vote. Such tactics are abhorrent, and those in the party who authorized this should feel ashamed. The ends do not justify the means.
In protest, therefore, against the heavy-handed tactics of my own party, I have decided not to vote Nov. 4. I have no love or fondness for any of the Republican candidates – far from it – but I will not be browbeaten in this way. I encourage others who feel similarly to likewise withhold their vote.
Intimidation to muster the vote is no less evil than intimidation to suppress the vote.
