Regarding Rob Christenen’s Feb. 1 column “ Raleigh needs buses, not light rail”: I get Christensen’s skepticism of light rail in our spread-out Triangle.
However, here is one set of numbers to chew on: RDU had roughly 9 million passengers in 2012. Would 10 percent of those passengers gladly take the train to the airport if the rails ran to RDU? Is the number of plane passengers going to increase in the future? Running the rails to RDU would, I bet, annually guarantee a million light riders.
