Regarding the Feb. 12 Under the Dome article “ Bills top $107,000 in gay marriage appeal”: As a registered Republican, I cease to be amazed at the North Carolina Republican lawmakers and their continued waste of taxpayers’ money.
Attorney General Roy Cooper, a most knowledgeable attorney, told our lawmakers that the law had been exhausted on fighting gay marriage. This should have been the end of the story. But our Republican lawmakers decided to fight on and hire “private counsel” to fight a lost cause. This lost cause is costing the taxpayers of North Carolina money the state does not have. We could have used the over $100,000 and counting for any number of real needs.
I am sure the law firms in Charlotte and California are smiling all the way to the bank. Where is the leadership and where is House Speaker Tim Moore? I had hoped he would be different from Thom Tillis.
In 2016, I will be voting for Roy Cooper.
Never miss a local story.
