The previous Republican-led Wake County Board of Commissioners could have been more agreeable, but it is gone so let’s move on.
The advocacy for more school/teacher money, transportation funds, a “destination” park and a bright, shiny train/bus station downtown are worthy goals and need to be debated as tax increases necessary for these will be considerable.
Property taxes based on assessments before the great recession are much higher than current prices realized in many cases, and let’s be honest, that’s where money for teacher pay, the park named for perhaps the world’s best known mental care advocate and the train depot must come from.
If given a vote, I’d prefer my increased property tax go to teachers and mental health!
Never miss a local story.
