Regarding the Feb. 11 column “ A tale of two speeches”: Thanks to J. Peder Zane for contrasting President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address with Gov. Pat McCrory’s State of the State.
It is apparent that the two visions are diametrically opposed, reflecting the schism between the liberal (big government) and the conservative (small government) proponents of this nation’s political spectrum. Each has played its part in weaving our political fabric, but the pendulum has swung too far to the left and is overdue for a correction.
North Carolina and other conservative states can play an important part in showing how cutting spending and taxes can lead to a more stable economy. Remember this Margaret Thatcher quote: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
