The May 15 sports article “Duke junior Megan Clark pole vaults to new heights” brought a smile to my face.
In 1960 when I entered high school and set the school pole vault record at under 14 feet, a commonly held track and field belief was that girls could not pole vault.
A remarkable athlete now proves just how laughable that position turned out to be.
My congratulations to Clark and all of the other far-sighted women who have worked so hard to level the playing field while rising above prejudice and ignorance for the generations who have benefited.
Never miss a local story.
