I would like to compliment The N&O for some really informative articles in its May 27 edition.
Rob Christensen’s column “The old stones of Israel” was a fascinating commentary telling us about his exciting trip to Israel with famed UNC-CH archeologist Jodi Magness.
Then there was the news article “56 UNC degrees dropped.” The article also discussed the “future of liberal arts in an era when job preparation is gaining more attention.”
I suspect if it were not for the reputation of Magness, this program would be dropped because there seems to be very limited financial opportunities in the field of archeology.
After all, it is a well-known fact that an archeologist’s career lies in ruins, even if he/she leaves no stone unturned.
