I find very odd that Sen. Phil Berger and his allies are so concerned about First Amendment (religious) rights of magistrates and registers of deeds when they are acting as public officials.
When the state’s ban on same-sex marriage was in effect, he and his allies showed no such concern for religious rights of clergy, acting as clergy, when some clergy wanted to perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples.
Berger and friends also show no concern for First Amendment (press and speech) rights of persons who would expose mistreatment of animals at poultry and pig processing plants, and he and his allies are once again restricting the constitutionally protected right to abortion services.
No, I do not look to Berger for accurate constitutional interpretation.
Never miss a local story.
