Regarding the July 8 Life, etc. article “How much do the ‘sell-by’ dates on food matter?”: Great! Perhaps I will be believed that I will not die because I always eat “outdated” food.
Just don’t eat anything from a bulging tin can. The bulge may come from botulism, which has no odor at all but just a couple of drop of toxins can make someone ill. Cook it for 10 to 15 minutes, and the food is safe again. But I recommend tossing it unless someone is starving.
