Regarding the Jan. 30 news article “Iran says it flew drone over U.S. aircraft carrier”: It should be noted that as many as 87 nations now have drones. It is not surprising that Iran would have them.
The U.S. Navy made it clear that the Iranian drone was not armed and only for surveillance. It is well known in the Middle East that the United States and Israel use armed drones for surveillance prior to the extrajudicial killing of suspected terrorists. Drones of various kinds have become quite common, even as Christmas gifts.
Some are advertised as easily weaponized. They were developed as military technology primarily for killing people. It is foolish to make drone technology easily available.
For instance, those who manufacture and sell military assault weapons never imagined that one of those weapons would be used to massacre a classroom of elementary school children.
