The fact that hearing aids costing the public thousands of dollars can be produced for no more than a hundred dollars explains a lot. It’s clear to me now how the hearing aid providers can afford to pay for full-page ads.
And who is paying for these ads? Why it’s the chumps like the letter-writer and me who have to fork over thousands of dollars for these tiny little inexpensive-to-manufacture devices.
Asking Medicare to pick up part of the cost may not be the answer since that would likely only lead to the vicious circle of higher taxes then to pay for the increased expense of Medicare. What we need is the appropriate government agency to look into this situation and determine how these companies have been able to ignore all of our fair trade laws and set their prices so extremely high. It seems to me what we have here is a clear case of collusion with the intent to limit open competition.
