Regarding the July 3 editorial “Court averts a Wake coup”: The editorial regarding the state legislature’s efforts to control Wake County’s local elections was right on target.
Taxpayers and voters will have to pay the price for the General Assembly’s recklessness, which twice has resulted in elections bills being ruled unconstitutional. Voters have endured two confusing congressional elections.
Now the Wake County Board of Elections has the task of cleaning up the mess and restoring local control in the elections of county commissioners and school board members.
In fulfilling that duty, the Wake County Board of Elections has only one logical choice: Go back to the system of voting that served the people of this county quite well before members of the General Assembly started their meddling in local issues. End the confusion.
