Regarding the Aug. 13 opinion piece “The only one who acted honorably was my daughter, the rape victim”: Gary Noling indicated that his deceased daughter was given an other than honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. He claims that five times as many such discharges are handed out today than were handed out to service members during World War II. Five times as many?
Noling questions if today’s young soldiers are really five times more dishonorable than were their counterparts from WWII. All these young people enter into the armed forces with good character as you can’t qualify for entry if you are a young person of bad character. And yet so many dishonorable discharges.
Congress needs to look into this business and find out what’s going on. Our leaders in Congress appear to be AWOL on this issue!
