I realize that the past cannot be saved in its entirety; however, I think it says volumes about a city and its leaders when the "best" of the past can be saved and displayed for future residents and visitors to admire. Alternative solutions to mandates (extra parking places) do take more time, sometimes more money and more creativity, but they pay dividends far in excess of this extra effort.
When Raleigh's leaders and school board planned and constructed N.B. Broughton High School, one of their considerations was to show how much they valued education. They knew that education was the key to moving Raleigh and North Carolina to the pinnacle of success in the United States.
This majestic structure sitting at the apex of the beautiful terraced lawn epitomizes their vision and should continue to show our appreciation of education.
