We are all sick of political advertising, especially the negative ones that take our attention away from the important issues. Unfortunately, these are all that Sen. Elizabeth Dole has offered voters since the campaigning began, and I had almost come to accept that. Until the most recent one ("Dole's 'godless' ad riles Hagan," news story, Oct. 30).

Not only has Dole avoided the actual issues that matter to North Carolina, she has now slandered and offended one of our best state senators and citizens in a most repulsive and desperate way. Kay Hagan has been a consistent and respected leader in her Christian community for decades, and to suggest anything otherwise is a pathetic last attempt at winning an election by Dole and her campaign on grounds that continue to distract from the fact that she has been a totally absent and ineffective representative for the past six years.

I trust that voters see through this outrageous attempt and that we can all view this with the outrage and disgust that it deserves.

Elizabeth Ragan, Raleigh
