An Oct. 3 letter-writer criticized Wake County schools for missing the mark on 2009 enrollment forecasts, which were used as a basis for the 2006/07 bond referendum. Somehow (back in the day when the Dow was approaching 12,000, the school system was growing by 6,000 students per year and unemployment was half of what it is today), the school system was supposed to forecast our current recession and the effect it would have on student population growth.

Wow! That would have to be some crystal ball! I would have liked to borrow it, before my 401(k) took a nosedive.

Dr. Earl Sunderhaus should be getting a commendation for telling the truth ("Blunt doctor gets in trouble," news story, Nov. 20). If a patient does not want a doctor to tell her she is fat, she ought to lose weight! There is no right to not be offended.
A better deal
The writer of the Nov. 14 People's Forum letter captioned "Involuntary speech" did not see anything honorable in Bob Hall's Nov.
Leg it to school
As we begin a conversation on community schools, I would encourage the Wake County school board to also consider the infrastructure necessary to allow our kids access to these community schools by walking or biking.
Fair funding
Objections to public funding of political candidates typically rely on the specious claim that it will force individual taxpayers to provide financial support to candidates they don't agree with.
