It will be interesting to see how Sen. Kay Hagan reconciles her "non-negotiable" promise to vote against health care legislation that increases the federal deficit with her favorable inclination toward a public option (article, Nov. 11). Taxpayers should hope she sticks to non-negotiable.
Almost all Americans believe there is a need for health care reform, but most are concerned about paying for the bills currently circulating around Congress. Many also blanch at the thought of forcing everyone to have coverage. This is after all a democracy and not a Democratic Party dictatorship. It would be great for our junior senator to lead the campaign to force all members of Congress to participate in whatever health care system they establish. Leadership by example usually wins the day.
