Disturbing rally

close xI'm a Latina who was a curious bystander during the protest at the Capitol on Saturday (Nov. 15 article, "Conservatives rally in Raleigh"), and it felt like the whole thing was against Latinos and Hispanics in the United States.
A candidate for Congress seemed to blame Latinos for everything including job loss. Another speaker complained about TV talk show host George Lopez and asked, "Aren't you getting tired of seeing billboards with George Lopez's face in Raleigh?"
Your paper needs to give more background information on these groups. Sure, some people there were concerned about taxes and health care, but many are racist and hateful in their language and belief.

In Rick Martinez's Feb. 3 column ("Debt's demands"), he argued that the national debt is rising uncontrollably. How does he propose to deal with it? Reducing spending will send our country into a death spiral of high unemployment. -
Workers' perspective
It is unfortunate that your Feb. 4 news article "Perdue: SEANC speaks for state workers" devoted so much space to opponents of workers' rights and their same, tired arguments. -
Garner folks fled
On Jan. 4. Wake County school board member John Tedesco told magnet school parents that he didn't care that his neighborhood school plan would create high poverty schools, "not if we have the achievement." -
Library supporters
So, Wake County is proposing to close the library in Garner. A library that serves the needs of many people south of the capital, some of whom are low-income. However, the county will maintain libraries in other, more affluent areas. -
Close quarters
Regarding your Feb. 5 editorial suggesting that gays should be allowed to serve openly in our military: I served in the Air Force for 25 years. Gays were quickly discharged. Some gays were harmed. Quick separation was therefore essential. -
Rides galore
A Feb. 5 letter about bus service at the Raleigh Amtrak station said: "Disembarking, a passenger finds a telephone number to summon a bus that may arrive within the next hour.
