Thank you for publishing photos of the 29th Veterans Day Parade (held Nov. 8 this year).

It is important for me to point out that although the parade took place in Raleigh, the sponsor of the parade was the Wake County Veterans Council. The event received excellent support from the Raleigh Police Department, but no money came from state or city governments.

As one of the volunteers, I am aware that organizations throughout the state were invited to participate. Many responded eagerly, from Cub Scouts to active-duty military members.

Others were unable to participate because of a lack of funds, deployments or other commitments. JROTC and ROTC cadets from area units and members of the Wake County Veterans Council were just some of the volunteers. I am sure those who attended did not go away disappointed.

The Wake County Veterans Council is an organization made up of over 26 veterans organizations that meet on the last Wednesday each month at the American Legion Post 1 on Lee Road in Raleigh at 7 p.m. Dinner is available.

God Bless America and its veterans!
