A blow to families

Regarding the May 7 news story "Wake schools regain control over year-round assignments":

I think the state Court of Appeals' ruling for the Wake County Public School System is insane. I get why the school system has to make many schools year-round, but couldn't it let parents choose whether they want their kids to go? Just because Wake County is getting more populated doesn't mean the board can take away our rights as citizens.

Also, this year-round schedule messes up parents' schedules. These students' parents are used to the regular nine-month schedule, and giving them five months until the 2008-2009 school year isn't long enough to adjust. Even though this wouldn't apply to me, I still think all parents in Wake County should get to make their own decisions about their children's futures.
