A lesson in hate

close xAs a product of the Wake County Public School System of more than 10 years ago, I applaud the election of new members to the Wake County school board who are against busing students in the name of diversity.
From elementary school to high school, I was a victim of the busing program. For the better part of five years, I had to endure the wrath of a bully who was bused on a daily basis to my neighborhood school. I would personally like to go before the school board and have someone explain to me why I had to put up with this bully, when he lived only a block away from Ligon Middle School. Instead of going to Ligon, he was bused every day more than 10 miles to Carroll Middle School.
For me, why go to South Raleigh to find a bully, when he was brought every day to my backyard. No child should have to endure what I endured from him. Busing that bully from Chavis Park to North Raleigh on a daily basis didn't teach me diversity; it taught me hate.

Ill-advised plan
The health care reform bill Congress is writing is not about more affordable and accessible care. For if it was about more affordable and accessible care, tort reform would be included. -
Stretching points
Rick Martinez (column, Nov. 18) once again discusses climate change with little understanding of the science involved nor the views of the latest experts he cites. -
Talon-licking good
Referring to the Nov. 23 article "In a Cary backyard, death swoops down," I feel the lady's pain. There should be consequences for that darn hawk looking for a meal. It's called dessert. -
Unaffiliated, welcome
I wrote the resolution to the GOP Executive Committee to close primary elections to unaffiliated voters (news story, Nov. 18). It was soundly defeated at the committee meeting in Raleigh. -
The place for justice
After several years with no action coming out of the military commissions system, the cases of five men suspected in connection with the 9/11 attacks will finally move to federal courts.
