Most happy with school board votes

RALEIGH - Most Wake County voters do not support changing to at-large school board elections, a poll released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling found.

Fifty-four percent in the poll said they feel the current system of electing board members by district is fine, while 33 percent said the system should be changed to an at-large one. The poll of 596 voters has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

County commissioners and the elected boards of Apex, Cary, Garner, Holly Springs and Rolesville have supported switching to at-large elections, in which school board candidates would have to run countywide. They're trying to persuade the General Assembly to change state law to make at-large elections possible.
