Lawmakers of the N.C. General Assembly took an informal recess this week, but state law requires them to meet every three days. They did so on Thursday - for about 10 minutes, a session so short that State Rep. Melanie Wade Goodwin, a first-year Democrat from Rockingham, took her daughter along. There was no bill for the 26 representatives to discuss, but Goodwin says she has been working on "lots of constituent stuff." The full legislature returns next week to try to complete its outstanding business.
