| Volunteer Latoria Burrus places canned food and other items on the steps of the Legislative Building on Tuesday. Lawmakers, staff members and lobbyists returned to the legislature Tuesday with more than just the short session on their minds. They collected 620 pounds of food and nearly $1,000 in the annual Legislative Food Drive to benefit America's Second Harvest Food Banks of North Carolina. "This is an opportunity for the legislators to give back," said Nancy Novell, special event and food drive coordinator with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. "They serve as role models for their constituents." | |
