Christina Huffman of Greensboro, left, and her mother, Debby Huffman, prepare for a talk with state Sen. Linda Garrou at the Legislative Office Building. Christina, who has cerebral palsy, rehearsed the words she'd use to pitch the need for more medical services: "We need good nurses, good teachers and good therapists." Her mother pointed out that many facilities for the developmentally disabled or the mentally retarded don't have the money to keep highly trained professionals. She said her daughter "doesn't understand the intricacies of politics, but she knows she has to have direct care 24 hours a day."
