| Gennie Thurlow, legislative assistant to Rep. Dewey Hill, sits down with a plate of food at the registration table for the N.C. Agribusiness Council luncheon. Not even food could tear some legislators away from putting together the state budget bill Tuesday. Even the egg toss that traditionally concludes the annual luncheon had to be canceled. State House members’ work paid off, though — the budget bill hit the House floor Wednesday and was adopted by House members in a 92-26 vote. Thurlow was helping to register lawmakers at the luncheon because her boss, Whiteville Democrat Rep. Hill, is chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. | ||
