State lawmakers hope to wrap up their so-called "short session" today and head home to face voters in the fall election.

Legislators have been in session for more than 150 days, focusing their efforts primarily on adjustments to North Carolina's $21 billion budget.

But legislators have several bills they hope to deal with today, including a measure to require counties such as Wake, Durham and Johnston to set new values for properties more frequently.

Also on the schedule are measures to give the state more tools to deal with droughts and to fine tune the state's ethics and lobbying laws.
