REP. BRAD MILLER

DEMOCRAT, 13TH DISTRICT

Raleigh office: (919) 781-9101

Miller is opposed to the Washington County site and thinks the Navy should work with Gov. Mike Easley to resolve the environmental and safety concerns, said spokesman Joe Bonfiglio.

REP. BOB ETHERIDGE

DEMOCRAT, 2ND DISTRICT

Raleigh office: (919) 829-9122

No firm position. In a statement, he praised the state's relationship with the military and said he was "pleased" that the Navy would continue to work with the state to study the impact of the landing field.

REP. DAVID E. PRICE

DEMOCRAT, 4TH DISTRICT

Washington office: (202) 225-1784

Says concerns of Washington County residents have been largely ignored and there are valid questions about the economic and environmental impacts of putting the landing field in Washington County. "The Pentagon is long overdue in providing those answers," Price said. Supports the task force assembled by Easley to better understand the implications of placing a landing field in North Carolina.

REP. WALTER B. JONES

REPUBLICAN, 3RD DISTRICT

N.C. office: (252) 931-1003

Supported bringing the outlying landing field to Craven County. He says now that the Navy has made the decision to put it in Washington County, it is a matter under the jurisdiction of the courts, not Congress.

REP. FRANK BALLANCE

DEMOCRAT, 1ST DISTRICT

N.C. offices: Williamston, (252) 789-4939; Norlina, (252) 456-3091; New Bern, (252) 633-7966.

Opposes the Washington County site. He sought unsuccessfully for a congressional hearing on the issue. "We have registered our objections and will continue to do so," he said.

REP. MIKE McINTYRE

DEMOCRAT, 7TH DISTRICT

N.C. offices: Fayetteville, (910) 323-0260; Wilmington, (910) 815-4959

Applauded Navy decision to base Super Hornets at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station. Supports Easley's efforts to address the concerns of airfield opponents.

SEN. JOHN EDWARDS

DEMOCRAT

N.C. offices: Raleigh, (919) 856-4245; Greenville, (252) 931-1111

Edwards has opposed the Navy plans for the site. He sought a hearing by the Senate Armed Services Committee. Supports building practice runways at the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station. Also would like to see four squadrons of Super Hornets -- with 49 planes, pilots and supporting crews -- at the air station.

SEN. ELIZABETH DOLE

REPUBLICAN

N.C. offices: Raleigh, (919) 856-4630; Salisbury, (704) 633-5011

"I have met with my constituents from Washington and Beaufort counties on three separate occasions -- it is clear to me that a united front exists opposing the Navy's choice of Washington County. I have stood and continue to stand with them and it is my hope that the Navy finds a more suitable site in Eastern North Carolina."
