TERM: Four years

SALARY: $119,901

THE JOB: The lieutenant governor is first in line to take over if the governor can no longer serve. He or she also presides over the state Senate and serves on the Council of State, an eight-member group of statewide elected officials. The lieutenant governor also serves on several boards and commissions, including the state Board of Education.
