Tickets for the inauguration ceremony Jan. 20 are free and available only through congressional offices. The official site for the swearing-in ceremony is http://inaugural.senate.gov.
There should be space available on parts of the National Mall, but expect huge crowds.
The inauguration parade doesn't require tickets, but spots on the route will fill up early.
There will be several official inaugural balls, but congressional offices do not have tickets to those. The North Carolina State Society will have its own unofficial ball Jan. 19. The first tickets will go to society members who paid their dues by March 1. Go to http://www.northcarolinasociety.org for information.
Groups and bands hoping to participate in the parade must apply by 5 p.m. Friday. To apply, call 202-691-2247, 202-691-2244 or e-mail inauguralparade@afic.northcom.mil to apply.
Don't bring bags, and wear a hat. Security will be tight, and the average high temperature in Washington in January is 42 degrees.
