Wake County students were even stronger supporters of Democratic candidates than their parents when it came to last week's elections.
Students backed Democratic candidates in all but two of the partisan races and a handful of nonpartisan judicial races, according to results released this week from Kids Voting Wake County. A record 68,967 students cast ballots at schools and polling places last week as part of a program to promote voting at a young age.
Students gave Barack Obama 64 percent of the vote for president, compared with 57 percent among adult Wake voters.
The kids also backed Bev Perdue for governor, giving her 48 percent of their votes, compared with 51 percent from the county's adults.
Students backed several Democratic candidates who lost statewide and General Assembly races, including Ronnie Ansley for Agriculture Commissioner and Chris Mintz for state Senate.
