Burr named to GOP leadership post

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina has been named to a leadership role in the Senate's Republican caucus.

Sen. John Kyle of Arizona, the Senate Republican whip, appointed Burr to serve as his chief deputy whip. Kyle cited Burr's "outstanding leadership skills."

In a statement Burr said he looked forward to working with Kyle and helping to articulate Senate Republicans' proposals on issues facing Congress.
