Gov. Mike Easley on Friday announced the appointment of Special Superior Court Judge John S. Arrowood of Charlotte to the state Court of Appeals.

Arrowood takes the seat vacated by Eric Levinson, who resigned to become the U.S. Justice Department's attache to Iraq.

"John Arrowood's distinguished career has led him through private practice and public service to the Superior Court bench," Easley said in a statement. "The people of North Carolina are indeed fortunate to have him serve on its Court of Appeals."

Easley appointed Arrowood as a special Superior Court judge in March. Arrowood was a partner of James, McElroy & Diehl in Charlotte.

Arrowood graduated magna cum laude from Catawba College in 1979 and received his law degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1982.
