Michael Munger on...

Democrat Beverly Perdue

"Bev Perdue seems to be running largely on a platform that it's her turn.

"She's an automaton. It's like a Stepford wife. She has no issues.

"She's running commercials that mostly seem to establish that she was once a child. She was once younger, and that at some points in her life, she's had some unfortunate haircuts.

"So it's chronicling a series of unfortunate haircuts."

Democrat Richard Moore

"A lot of the money Richard Moore is getting is from Wall Street, firms that are making contributions based on the dealings Richard Moore had in releasing bonds ... as state treasurer with those same Wall Street firms.

"It doesn't just seem like a conflict of interest. It is a conflict of interest. He says he doesn't have any problem with that, and the reason is because it's not against the law. It's extremely unethical. It's repulsive."

All the Republican candidates

"For years I thought elections were about issues.

"I'm now convinced that what most people are looking for is the answer to this question: 'Would I let you watch my cats if I was going on vacation to the beach for a week?' And the Republicans are putting up people you don't want watching your cats.

"You don't trust them. You don't look at them and say, 'That's somebody that would manage to feed them on time, that would change the litter box.'"
