JOURNALISM PROFESSOR TO ENTER HALL OF FAME: Professor Phil Meyer, a former journalist who holds the Knight Chair in Journalism at UNC-CH's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will be inducted into the N.C. Journalism Hall of Fame on Sunday, March 30. The Hall of Fame recognizes those who have made outstanding career-long contributions to their field. Susan Fowler Credle, executive vice president and executive creative director at the BBDO agency in New York, will receive the Next Generation Leadership Award. A posthumous honor will go to James Davis, who became the state's first printer in 1749. Tickets are $75 each and include a reception and dinner at the Carolina Inn. WAKE PARK MANAGER GETS AWARD: Sara Drumheller, assistant manager at Wake County Historic Oak View Park, was recently named the 2008 Early Career Professional of the Year by the N.C. Museums Council at its annual conference in Fayetteville. "I've been in the public history field for nearly four decades, and Sara is quite simply one of the best young professionals I've ever known," said Dr. William S. Price, retired director of the state Division of Archives and History. "I can't think of a worthier recipient than her." The award recognizes young professionals for motivation and creativity. At the park, Drumheller plans, supervises and carries out an educational, special event and exhibit program, interpreting the history of North Carolina agriculture. She also supervises daily operations and maintenance of the 27-acre park.

CIVIC CLUB RECOGNIZED FOR ASSISTANCE TO BLIND WORKERS: The Raleigh Lions Clinic for the Blind has received an Employment Retention, Growth and Upward Mobility Award from National Industries for the Blind for the agency's demonstrated commitment to increase employment and economic opportunities for people who are blind.
