A Durham man who federal prosecutors say led a major drug ring has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison.

Lee Anthony Braggs, 39, was sentenced to 254 months in prison last week by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Louise W. Flanagan in New Bern. Braggs pleaded guilty in June to one count of an indictment that charged him with conspiring to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine.

An Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force operation determined that Braggs led a group that brought more than 700 kilograms of cocaine from Atlanta to Wilmington for distribution.

"The significant amount of prison time Mr. Braggs received correctly reflects the significant amount of cocaine distribution that Mr. Braggs oversaw as head of the drug ring," U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding said in a prepared statement.
