FORT BRAGG - Police are investigating vandalism at six schools on two North Carolina military bases that caused $50,000 in damage.

The vandalism was found in May, July and August at middle schools and elementary schools at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, The Fayetteville Observer reported Wednesday. Both bases are adjacent to Fayetteville.

Officials said the vandals poured paint onto furniture, computers, floors and walls.

Fort Bragg spokeswoman Sheri Lynne Crowe said she couldn't comment on whether investigators think the incidents are related.

Officials said schools reopened Monday.

Dr. Emily Marsh, an assistant superintendent with the U.S. Department of Defense's domestic education system, said parents and students were being asked to report any suspicious behavior.

Marsh said vandalism at the base schools was rare until this summer.

"We're making a concerted effort to inform our Fort Bragg community of the problem we've had this summer," Marsh said.
