Four students take part in business institute

Catherine Bell, Taylor Carraway and Kelsey Puryear of Raleigh and Drew Falvey of Cary participated in the 2008 Martha Guy Summer Institute for Future Business Leaders at Appalachian State University in July. They were among a group of 22 students from across North Carolina selected for the program. Bell is a senior at Wakefield High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Bell; Carraway is a senior at Wakefield High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby E. Carraway III; Puryear is a senior at Athens Drive High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Puryear; Falvey is a senior at Panther Creek High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Falvey. Students participated in lectures highlighting entrepreneurship and the basic principles of business, and they developed and presented their own business plans in small groups.

Raleigh resident receives Boy Scout Eagle rank

Mitchell Dillon Brown, son of Steve and Lynn Brown of Raleigh, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting. Brown, 16, is a member of Troop 357, sponsored by Highland United Methodist Church. For his Eagle project, he planned and supervised the construction of a large concrete slab in the playground used by the church's day care center. He is a senior at Broughton High School.
