RALEIGH - A man was charged with murder Thursday in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy, police said.The victim, Charvus Dublin of Raleigh, was transported to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office, a spokesperson said today.Authorities were dispatched to a residence in the 3300 block of Hewberry Lane on a code blue involving the toddler, according to a Raleigh police press release. He was pronounced dead a short time later.Officials said Thursday night that DonJuan Cassadary Smith Jr., 24, of 3320-104 Hewberry Lane, had earlier been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the boy's death. He was at the scene when EMS personnel arrived Wednesday, and was arrested there overnight, the release stated.Charges were upgraded based on the continuing investigation by the department's Major Crimes Task Force.Thursday night, Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue did not elaborate on the relationship between Smith and the toddler, only saying they were "known to each other."Smith appeared in Wake County District Court this afternoon and was ordered held without bail. He asked for a court-appointed attorney.
