30 YEARS OF HELPING STUDENTS GET A DEGREE: The N.C. State University Upward Bound Program will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Saturday at the Jane S. McKimmon Center. The federally funded pre-college program works to provide equal access to higher education by helping young students prepare for higher education. Participants receive instruction in literature, composition, mathematics and science on college campuses after school, on Saturdays and during the summer. Currently, 774 programs are in operation throughout the United States. The NCSU program is one of the oldest in the state and has assisted close to 1,000 people in obtaining a college degree.
