Road hogs

While Gov. Mike Easley might have made a few wrong turns during his tenure, he was absolutely right to veto the bill allowing oversized boats on N.C. highways.

Just as everyday drivers are scaling back and trying to save gas, our out-of-touch legislators have apparently caved in to special interests in the big boat industry and voted overwhelmingly to override Easley's veto. No doubt they will now have the money to fuel their Hummers and Cadillacs while non-boat owners are left to drive at the mercy of 10-foot-wide road hogs who, as the N.C. Highway Patrol clearly stated, will cause accidents.

Come November, throw 'em overboard!
