Raleigh salon honored

Blo hair salon in Raleigh was selected from more than 3,000 salons around the world to receive the industry's highest business honor at the 2008 Global Salon Business Awards.

Architect Victoria Ballard Bell is featured in July's issue of Metropolitan Home magazine for design work she completed as a Rose Architectural Fellow. Bell designed and found funding for a job-training center in an economically depressed, rural region of Alabama, and is being cited as one of the Most Determined Fellows. Design Corp. in Raleigh is Bell's Fellowship host.

Danielle N. Kaspar, director of programming and events for the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, graduated from the Institute for Organization Management. She is the second person in the Chamber's 100-year history to complete the program.

Bob Glaser of the N.C. Automobile Dealers Association in Raleigh was named Outstanding CEO for 2007-2008 by the Association Executives of North Carolina. Joan Elliott, controller for the Southern Building Material Association in Charlotte, won the Distinguished Service Award, and Malinda Pettaway, sales manager for the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, won the Patsy B. Smith Award, an affiliate membership category award that recognizes outstanding professionalism and exemplary service.

Capital Ford of Raleigh was named to Ford Motor Company's One Hundred Club, which recognizes the top 100 Ford automotive dealers in the United States based on sales performance.

Nuestro Banco in Raleigh has been certified as a Community Development financial institution by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Real estate company Crosland won the 2007 National Multifamily Customer Service Award for Excellence. Crosland is one of four award recipients nationwide.

The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau received six Destination Marketing Achievement Awards at the ninth annual Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina's Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet. The Bureau was honored with one platinum, four gold and one innovation destination marketing award.

Fair trade retailer Ten Thousand Villages has been recognized as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies by The Ethisphere Institute and Forbes Magazine. Ten Thousand Villages has a store in Raleigh's Cameron Village.

Wake Technical Community College received a 2008 Innovation of the Year Award recognizing its northern Wake campus for its creativity, quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness. The award was presented by the League for Innovation in the Community College.

The Caring Community Foundation which provides financial assistance to cancer patients throughout the Raleigh, Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill areas, was awarded the Council for Entrepreneurial Development's 2008 Social Entrepreneurship Award.

Brooks Malone, a partner at Raleigh accounting firm Hughes Pittman & Gupton, won the 2008 Outstanding Service to Entrepreneurs Award from the Council for Entrepreneurial Development.

Fred Anderson Toyota has been named to Toyota Motor Corporation's President's Cabinet. The Raleigh dealership is one of only 12 Toyota franchises nationwide selected for the recognition.

An article titled "Safer Salads" in American Scientist magazine won a Bronze Excel Award in the Feature Article category in the 28th annual Society of National Association Publications Excel Awards. The cover of the Sept.-Oct. 2007 issue won a Silver Excel Award in the Cover Illustration category. American Scientist is published by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society in Research Triangle Park.
