Freightliner laying off 675 N.C. workers

MOUNT HOLLY - Freightliner will lay off about 675 workers at its Mount Holly truck manufacturing plant, effective Oct. 31.

The plant in Gaston County employs 1,145 workers, who got word of the move under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Plant operations will be scaled back from two shifts to one shift per day. Freightliner also plans to cut 225 jobs at its Gaffney, S.C., plant.
