RALEIGH - As many as 1,000 teens from across the state are expected to attend "Rally the VOTE -- Voices of Teens Emerging," a nonpartisan Sept. 20 event on voter registration and voter turnout sponsored by the Girl Scouts.

North Carolina gubernatorial candidates Pat McCrory, a Republican, and Beverly Perdue, a Democrat, have been invited to address the high school teens. The rally will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Meymandi Hall in downtown Raleigh.

Jessica Jacobs, former Miss North Carolina and founder of the "Read to Me" literacy program, will serve as host of the four-hour event. Damon Circosta, policy director for the N.C. Center for Voter Education, and Jenn Frye, with Democracy North Carolina, will help teach the teens about voter registration and turn-out. The Raleigh-based rock band Old Avenue will perform.

Groups register prior to the event at www.voicesofteensemerging.com. Additional information can be found on the Web page or by calling 782-3031.
