HOLLY SPRINGS - The federal Economic Development Administration will kick in $1 million for sewer improvements Holly Springs needs to host a planned flu vaccine plant, Sen. Elizabeth Dole said Friday.

The grant ends the town leaders' months-long effort to finance about $20 million in road, water and other projects promised to Novartis as part of an economic incentives deal signed last year. Town taxpayers will pay for most of the promises, but the town also expects to get help from nonprofits, the state government and the federal government.

Town officials say the money is a small price to pay for the flu vaccine plant, which they predict will bring about 350 new jobs to town and attract other businesses into Holly Springs.
