The crowd at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner was divided between supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama. Few attendees were undecided. Here are some voices of voters in the audience:
FOR OBAMA: Bernice Kelly, 45, program manager, Raleigh: "When Hillary first came on the scene, I was a supporter. Then Obama stepped onto the scene. ... He's younger and more energetic. Hillary is bitter and older. He's consistent, and he doesn't owe the lobbyists anything."
FOR CLINTON: Devon White, 43, trademark lawyer, Raleigh: "I've been a Hillary supporter since she first ran for Senate. I think she has the best comprehensive plans on education and health care. ... It's not the only reason, but I am certainly ready for a woman president."
UNDECIDED: Heather Bettman, 24, Meredith College senior, Garner: "I don't know much about Obama, but I'm not sure about Clinton. She seems too emotional, but at the same time I'm worried that Obama seems too wishy-washy. ... I don't know if I can trust Obama, and I don't know if I can believe what Hillary is saying, but I know I don't like John McCain."
