Mailer with an agenda

On May 2 I received a mailer from the Voter Participation Center. It stated that the deadline for voter registration was approaching and that voter registration laws required me to submit an official application in order to vote. Included was an "official" Voter Registration Application to be mailed in.

Trouble is, the deadline for write-in registration for Tuesday's primaries was April 11, while one-stop registration and voting was still available to voters on May 2 and 3. So unregistered voters following the mailer's advice would be ineligible to vote in the May 6 primary; and registered voters considering the mailer's information might have been confused into thinking that they were not eligible to vote early or on May 6.

I am a registered voter. Still, the mailer gave me pause.

I traced the Voter Participation Center "project" to Women's Voices. Women Vote. The group claims the mailer was an attempt to help single women and underrepresented people vote. It's inconceivable that this well-funded advocacy group did not know what the result of its confusing and untimely mailing could be. In my opinion, theirs was not an honest mistake.
