Regarding the May 16 article "Death renews fears about street":

I, too, know the danger of crossing the street at Manning Drive and S. Columbia Street on UNC-Chapel Hill's campus.

One early morning, a city bus nearly mowed me over as it took a left-hand turn dangerously fast. Other times impatient drivers have stopped just at the last moment after spotting me as I walked across. And yet I also confess to frequently not waiting for the lights to change. All of which means one instantaneous and very bad decision by any one of us can turn an ordinary day into unspeakable tragedy.

Don't let it happen to you. Act responsibly and don't assume others will do the same.
